I will answer questions when the time comes, says Dhoni

Birmingham, May 30 (PTI): Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni today refused to break the BCCI gag on him in answering questions on the spot-fixing scandal that has hit IPL except to say that some players are "slightly mentally weak" compared to others.

Addressing a press conference here ahead of the Champions Trophy, he made it clear that he would not answer questions relating to the recent controversies, saying he would definitely speak at the right time.

At the brief press conference, an ICC official reminded the journalists that the interaction should be limited to the Champions Trophy much like the Indian team media manager's intervention during the pre-departure press conference in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Dhoni had come under severe attack from media and commentators for his silence in refusing to answer questions at the Mumbai interaction.

"If I have not answered Indian journalists, there is no reason why I should answer you...at the right time (I will speak)," he said in reply to a question today by a reporter who asked him about the spot-fixing scandal.

Asked if the Champion Trophy is an opportunity to "restore the reputation" of Indian cricket, Dhoni said, "It is not that the reputation has gone. If I go ahead to explain that I would rather answer his question also. When the right time comes, I will answer it.

"As of now, I dont think we have lost the opportunity because whatever the set up is throught out the world or any sport, still you have some people who would be slightly mentally weak as compared to some of the others. I would have loved to elaborate but at the right time I will do it", he said.

When pressed further on the issue, Dhoni said "well, you are just forcing me to answer but definitely when the time comes I will answer".

Q: Imagine if you win the Champions Trophy, the faith of Indian fans will be restored?
A: Well, I know one thing I am a person who lives in the present, I don't really believe in imagining. I believe in doing the stuff right.
Q: Expand on it, do you look the same cool, relaxed guy as you have been over the years?
A: You are just forcing me to answer a few things but definitely when the time comes I will answer that. Just want to keep our side away from everything as of now.
Asked about the team spirit, he said "it was fantastic".

Yesterday also he avoided a series of questions on the spot-fixing:

Q: As the leader of Indian cricket fraternity, why we have not heard from you so far?
Q: Can you guarantee Indian cricket fans that during Champions Trophy, there will be no mischief on the field?
Q: Has there been an impact on the players going for Champions Trophy?
Q: Do you know Vindoo Dara Singh personally?.

The right is very much around the corner: After few days the media frenzy over this betting will get over and the committee appointed by the BCCCI will come out with its report. Investigations by Delhi and Mumbai police will lead to no where as they will try to conceal information from each other. The report will implicate Srisanth, Ankeet and Chandila as the only three involved in betting along with some tea shop vendor from Kerala.By that time another poitless T20 championship will be on and our cricket mad fans will be busy chasing the scores, length of sixers and other stuff.
Now it is right for Dhoni to call a press conference and sing the pipers tune something like this " See my stand has been vindicated, there are always bad mangoes in a basket and we cannot blame the entire cricketing fraternity for that. I have always played cricket in the true spirit of the game and I am relieved that Sri Srinivasan a deeply religious man has come out unscathed from this controversy and has proved his innocense.
Next Dhoni will be promoted as the Sr VP of Madras cement .

I believe Dhonis' closeness with Srinivasan, India Cement, Gurunath and him being Captain of CSK, makes him a highly susceptible persona in Cricket. This is confluence of Money and Power, unprecedented in Indian Cricket. Power and Money both corrupt us mortals. In this case there is power, there is enormous money, there is highly visible celebrity status and abundant opportunity to manipulate and 'fix'.

First of all I request ICC to stop IPL. IPL is nothing but a game of money. Blak dot on gentlemen's game (cricket).
I dont understand this IPL. We tired of watching this 60-70 matches. Let each team play 1-1 match, then semi final then final.. but in IPL we can see lot of matches then comes playoff then final ufff... The people who dont have work and the people who are interested in betting can only enjoy the IPL..

    Dear Dhoni,
If you and your family is innocent in spot fixing then why you are not answering the media questions. I think you are afraid of telling the truth while answering the media questions or you are dancing to the flute of BCCI.

If Dhoni opens his mouth Indian team will lose some of the players currently in the Champions Trophy squad. If India win the trophy then everyone will forget the match fixing scandal in IPL and praise the captain and team. If India fail to make the cut then the public will come hard on Dhoni and his troupe to futher investigate the IPL scandal.

To survive in politics you need to become a good politician....More Money More Power = Untouchable Politician.

In cricket when you get power in addition to money, you become policricketician.... you become untouchable then.
