Spot-fixing scandal: Meiyappan arrested by Mumbai police

Mumbai, May 25 (Agencies): Mumbai police arrested Chennai Super Kings owner Gurunath Meiyappan for his alleged involvement in IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal.

Gurunath was whisked off by police, to the headquarters shortly after he landed in Mumbai Friday evening for questioning.

"We have interrogated Gurunath based on information we have. We have found his involvement in the offence related to IPL betting case. We have placed him under arrest", Joint Commissioner (Crime) of Mumbai Police Himanshu Roy told reporters.

He came under police scanner for his alleged involvment in the latest IPL spot fixing scam after his name was revealed by Bollywood actor Vindu Dara Singh Randhawa, who is currently in police custody.

Gurunath was arrested after nearly three hours of questioning that began at 9.30 pm, Roy said adding he will be produced before a metropolitan court tomorrow.

Vindoo reportedly admitted to having placed bets on behalf of Gurunath, son-in-law of BCCI President N Srinivasan.

Vindoo, winner of reality show Bigg Boss season 3 and son of late wrestler-actor Dara Singh, was allegedly in "frequent touch" with Gurunath during the IPL matches and was claimed to have told Mumbai crime branch that the CSK owner had lost Rs 1 crore through betting.

The crime branch, according to sources, had call data records of conversations between Vindoo and Meiyappan and they were learnt to have confronted the two with the transcripts.

CAG/Telecommunication or Railway any cases opposition is asking the ruling Government to step down or asking for resignations etc. Why they are not asking the high command of the party to take action against Mr. Jetley or Rajeev Shukla or Sharad Power? This case is happened when these people were in control of BCCI/IPL. Why Congress or BJP supporters are not raising against them.?

It is a wonder really why Gurunath Meiyappan wants to avoid questioning by Mumbai Police team. If he has nothing to hide, he should have voluntarily contacted Mumbai police the moment his name specifically got flashed in the allegations. Any honourable person would surely have done that unless he wishes to gain time to put a stop to the probe by using other contacts. And by keeping silent and literally hiding when police is serving summons in his house does not reflect good on his credibility. No one wishes to automatically brand him as guilty but a person in such an important position must also act to show his credibility.

What I was understand is Meiyappan is involved in the betting not spot fixing … I will support him , uncles until u make betting legal in india there is no soluation , as per IPC there is no provision for punishment for spot fixing but owner can fill the compline under IPC 420 for cheating breaking there contract which every player shall sign . Meiyappan is not owner but he is part of the system , CSK should not banned but they can put 6 match ban or fine to clean there system . Srinivasan is soft target by all buz he is very powerful person there are lot of conspiracy behind let him down , matter should investigated properly and our media should act responsibly in all the manner

Just reverse BCCI, it will be ICCB, which means India Cement Company Backyard.
Now BCCI is almost a private property of Srinivasan who is the Boss of India Cement company of Tamil nadu.

    Indians are foolish?
When our Railway Minister's nephew was staying in his house and dealing everything about his official duties he was happy and when he was caught he told that he don't have any relationship with him. Same way now Srinivasan will tell that he don't have relation with his son in law. Our Ministers are healthy but when they are caught in any cases they will tell that they will they are sick and want to go to Hospital instead Jail. They are fooling us.
