Mumbai police seize Sreesanth's phones, laptops, data cards

Mumbai, May 18 (IANS):
Probing deeper into the IPL spot-match fixing scam, Mumbai police have seized the mobiles, iPhones, laptops, data cards and other personal belongings of cricketer S. Sreesanth and his relative-cum-bookie Jiju Janardhan, a top police officer said here Saturday.

Besides, the Mumbai police are also scanning the diaries of Sreesanth which contain significant information pertaining to the scam, Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Himanshu Roy, who is spearheading the investigations, told media persons here.

Police also searched the room in a five-star hotel in south Mumbai where Sreesanth and Janardhan had checked in after making a booking through Tamarind Tours & Travels, he said.

"We are also scanning the CCTV footage of the hotel to find out who they met during their stay there, their movements, and visitors who called on them," Roy said, adding that the Mumbai police will reconstruct the sequence of events in the hotel May 14/15 till Sreesanth's arrest by Delhi Police.

In another development, another bookie, Pravin Bera, was nabbed Saturday for his role in the spot fixing scam.

Besides Pravin Bera, Ramesh Vyas, Pankaj Shah alias Lotus, Ashok Vyas, Pandurang Kadam, Niraj Shah have also been arrested so far.

Police had raided bookie Ramesh Vyas's office in Kalbadevi and he was nabbed May 14.

Investigators picked up a rich haul of 92 mobile phone, 18 SIM cards, account books, laptops, a TV set and a satellite, among others.

"Thirty of the mobile phones were used to make conference calls to bookies in India, Pakistan and Dubai by Vyas, who was in touch with all the bookies and had also given some money to them," Roy said.

"We have several more bookies who are wanted in connection with this connection," he added, hinting at more arrests.

To a question, Roy said that the police were contemplating slapping the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act on all the accused after complying with the necessary pre-conditions.

Three cricketers grilled together, TV footage sought

Three Rajasthan Royal players, S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankit Chavan, arrested for alleged spot fixing in IPL cricket matches, were Saturday questioned in each others' presence by Delhi Police, an official said.

The suspects confessed to their crime but blamed each other for dragging them into spot fixing, police sources said, adding that investigators have sought from a TV channel raw footage of three cricket matches during which the wrong doings allegedly took place.

Police said they will check the bank accounts of the arrested players and bookies to track the flow of money.

"The first match was spot fixed for Rs.40 lakh and Rs.20 lakh were paid. The second was fixed for Rs.40 lakh out of which Sreesanth got Rs.10 lakh from Jiju Janardhan, a bookie, and the third match was fixed for Rs.60 lakh but no money was delivered," a police officer said.

He said they had very strong evidence against the players and bookies who indulged in spot fixing willingly for money.

The three accused cricketers, presently in police custody, were, during the day, brought before each other in a room in the office of the Special Cell of police in Lodhi Colony in south Delhi and questioned for two hours, the sources said.

This was the first occasion when the three players were confronted with each other since their arrest Thursday. They were questioned separately Friday, police said.

The accused's interrogation was done under the supervision of Special Commissioner of Police S.N. Srivastava, police sources said.

During separate interrogation Saturday, 11 bookies, all of whom are in police custody, were also brought before each other, sources said.

On Saturday, Delhi Police approached the SET Max TV channel to get the raw footage of all the three IPL matches in which the alleged spot fixing took place. The matches played were played May 5, May 9 and May 15.

Police said they were sharing the case-related information with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

"A BCCI investigator today (Saturday) approached us and the information related with the case were shared," an officer said.

Police said seven bookies were arrested from Delhi and Gurgaon while the others from Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Bookie Ashwani Agarwal was arrested from Gurgaon. On his instance Amit Gupta, Ramakant, Love Garg and Ajay Goel were arrested from Delhi.

Delhi Police also conducted raids in several cities including Mumbai and Ahmedabad to track the money trail in connection with the alleged spot fixing racket, sources said.

A team of Delhi police went to the house of Chandila in Faridabad in Haryana. However, his family members were not present and the house was locked.

After the alleged fixing, the first installment of money was delivered at Chandila's house, an officer said.

The three cricketers and 11 bookies, who are in five days police custody, were charged under penal provisions for cheating and criminal conspiracy.

If cheating charges against the accused are proved, they may get a maximum punishment of seven years each.

Delhi Police arrested the three players in a post-midnight operation in Mumbai May 16 for spot fixing in IPL matches for payments of upto Rs.60 lakh, just for giving away a pre-determined number of runs in an over.

Over the recovery and arrests made by Mumbai Police in the , a Delhi Police official said they have recovered all the things which were required to make the case against the accused strong.

The Delhi official said they will soon contact their counterparts in Mumbai.

Mumbai police have seized the mobiles, iPhones, laptops, data cards and other personal things allegedly belonging to Sreesanth and Jiju from a hotel in that city.

I don't think this scandal not is as big as 2G, Coalgate, CWG, Railgate.....etc....come on, all media should focus on these things instead of this spot fixing. What happend to Bansal & Aswin Kumar they are not culprits?. CBI not arrested them. But in case of these three players all the media and police projecting them as culprits. Mind they are only accused. No body has the right pass the judgement other than court.

Shameless guys. In India, people play & watch Cricket like we respects our Motherland. People pay minimum Rs 750/- for 3 hours game of T20. Most of us spend lot of time in front of TV to watch our favorite team to play well. But these fellows play with our emotions. Put them behind bar for every 3 hours in jail each day till completion of all T20 matches every year

Unfortnately all my fav cricketers met with match fixing accidetns. Hansie,Azhar,Ajay Jadeja and now Sreeshant.
1.Hansie was one of the finest captains world cricket has ever seen.Very committed captain, played some fantastic innings when South Africa was in trouble. Finally became victim of match fixing.
2.Azahruddin:Century in the first test at Calcutta,Century in the 2nd test and World record century in the 3rd test.I became his fan like other Indians. His god gifted flick shots became talk of the town.He was honoured with Indian captaincy and became successful captain. Finally,he went after money, met with match fixers.Hero became Zero in one day.
3.Ajay Jadeja:Very egile, smiling, hard hitting all rounder. He was considered as future Indian captain. His stunning innings in the world cup against Pak is still fresh in my mind.He blasted 40 runs in 2 overs of Waqar Yunis. He too joined match fixing club
4:Shanta Kumar Sreeshant Nair:One of the marvellous swing bowlers India have ever produced. His match winning performance in South Africa raised many legends eyebrows.Allan Donald said "I have never seen such a spirited pace bowler from India,Well Done Sree" .He was a part of 2 World Cup victories. Now Sreeshant is only a History. He brought shame to divine cricket game.I am deeply hurt. Because of some idiots,my favourite cricket game is in serious danger. Can you save it ?

" Desh " is not involved here. All the teams are mixed teams having players from different countries/ different Desh. The very foundation of IPL is Money-Money & nothing else. Loyalty to money is not loyalty to our Desha. So, no one is Desh Ka Gaddar in this case. Only if the match fixing takes place in Test Cricket then it is Desha-Droha. Here in IPL only the Team owners and the Fans are deceived.

Whether Politics or Cricket, the Honey Trap exists in those field where Money & Power exists and blackmailers are plotting to trap people with Money & Power. It has got nothing to do with fan followings.
Veerappa has just asked a simple question, that is - what is the real meaning of this IDIOM Honey Trap.
Meaning of Honey Trap is as under - Copied from Internet-Dictionary:-
A scheme or plot in which a victim is lured into a compromising sexual situation to provide an opportunity for blackmail.

There are people, in their position as CM\Ministers of state etc who have robbed tax payers money\State's Mineral wealth in multiple crores and still no sign of any punishment nor any sign of that wealth recovery by the State Law machinery. Mind you this is Peoples\Govt's money.

In IPL, it is not ones tax money that is paid to the Govt., that is used. But you are asking such stringent measures against these match fixers and you are silent of the other fixers who have committed 1000 times greater wrong.
