Hope BCCI doesn't bury corruption issue: Lalit Modi

New Delhi, May 16 (IANS): Former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi Thursday hoped that Indian cricket board will do all that is required to root out corruption in the game and not sweep things under the carpet.

Modi, who was removed as IPL chief in 2010 after being accused of financial impropriety, was reacting to the Wednesday's arrest of Rajasthan Royals cricketers S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan on corruption charges.

"I hope the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not bury ths issue. It is the one issue that will destroy cricket. I hope the zero tolerance policy we had is still there," tweeted Modi Thursday.

"Just woke up and never seen so many missed calls- seems the one thing I have been saying will ruin this beautiful league - fixing has happened," that was how Modi reacted after hearing the news.

He questioned role of BCCI's anti-corruption unit set last year in the wake of another spot-fixing scandal.

"What has the Anti corruption team been doing? Kudos to the Delhi Police for there work."

"The tough stand adopted by me when I was there - caused problems for me with many attempted assassination attempts."

"Hope now all realise what I have been saying about security issues is finally taken into account by Indian authorities, public and media."

Finacial impropriety is not corruption. Modi was trying to make fast money & swindle of funds as he might have thought IPL was his baby and he deserves a bigger share. This was not digested by other officials like srinivasan & co. But corruption is entirely different, it is selling your integrity & soul for money & doing wrong things. what modi did was fraud & not corruption. There is a bigger picture. why are people quite when Srinivasan is holding conflicting positions. if modi was criminal why is London giving him assylum. can't Indian police arrest him in London. all this is eye wash. BCCI wants to show it is clean. crooks!!!

First see yourself. You were thrown out of IPL because you were involved in corruption. Many of the players are following you.
