Vettel storms to pole in Australia


Melbourne, Mar 17 (IANS): German Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel stormed to pole position as the Red Bulls locked out the front row in the first Grand Prix of the 2013 season at Albert Park here in Australia Sunday.

Q2 and Q3 resumed Sunday morning at 11 a.m. after it was suspended Saturday due to heavy rain.

Triple World Champion Vettel won his 37th pole in wet and dry conditions clocking 1:27.407 in Q3 ahead of teammate and local boy Mark Webber. Lewis Hamilton, in his new stint with Mercedes, will start third on the grid on late Sunday afternoon.

The Red Bulls were a second faster than the Ferraris of Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Nico Rosberg, Kimi Raikkonen, Romain Grosjean, Paul di Resta and Jenson Button completed the top 10.
