Mumbai: Ryan Inter School holds eighth Inter zonal Athletic Championship

Mumbai, Feb 11: Eighth Ryan Inter school inter zonal athletic championship for the year 2012-13 was conducted by Ryan International Group of Institutions on February 2 at SAI Sports ground at St Lawrence High School, for track, long jump events and various other field events. 

There were about 39 schools participating in from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai region.  There were 88 events conducted in each of the seven zones for boys in the age group of 8 and 16. 

The zonal winners who qualified took part in the final event that was held on Feb 2 wherein 993 girls and boys participated. The opening ceremony was held at 9am with prayers and cultural items and students taking the oath for the day. 

Inter Zonal Athletic Championship was graced by various esteemed guests throughout the day, especially renowned coaches and sports personalities who shared their experiences with the budding ryanites and also gave away the prices.

First three Athletes were given medals and certificate.  Individual championship was awarded to the best Athlete from each age group with highest number of points.  Team championship trophy was awarded to the best school with highest number of points.

Students of St Xavier’s High School - Airoli were declared the champions with total of 263 points followed by St Lawrence High School – Kandivli with 252 points and St Joseph High School (SSC) Panvel with 189 points. 

Blasie D’souza, HM of St Xavier’s Airoli said, “the quote of Michael Jordan that goes, ‘Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships,’ has come to for our school.” 

The entire meet was truly an opportunity for the students to make the best of their talents in sports and excel in their future endeavours.  Here are a few glimpses of students’ participation on the day of the event.
