Mumbai: St Peter's Association, Barkur, Steps into Silver Jubilee Year

Mumbai, Jan 6: St Peter's Association, Barkur, which has been rendering social and educational services for the past 25 years, flagged off its silver jubilee celebrations at Bhuriben Laxmichand Golwala hall in Ghatkopar (West) here on Sunday January 6.

Janet Lawrence D’Souza, president of the Association's women’s wing, Mumbai zone flagged off the celebration while Simon Peter Furtado, Association president presided.

Fr Albert Gonsalves, parish priest of Fathima Church; Br K Silvera; Jayaprakash Shetty Barkur of Mulund Bunts; Harry Rebello; Alwyn Rasquina; Harry Bothello; Raymond Lobo; Sebastian D’souza were the guests of honour.

Jayaprakash Shetty in his address said that the Association's love towards their motherland is exemplary. "Barkur is not only known for its ancient tradition, but also noted for spreading its fragrance. We should be proud that we belong to this region," he added.

He also lauded the Association for its contributions in various fields and also wished the members luck.

"There is good future for any association which works for the betterment of the society, and St Peter’s Association is on the right track," said Janet D’Souza, "By stepping into the 25th year, it is clear that the Association is fulfilling all its goals. I wish that people continue to be benefited from their service."

As part of the entertainment programme, 'The Expressions' Barkur group presented ‘Konnyi Somananth’ play directed by Alwyn Andrade Barkur. Stella Louis, Prakash Shetty, Hubert Menezes, Stephen Rodrigues, Raviprakash Gonsalves, Kishore Gonsalves, Sujath Andrade, Cyprian Pinto, Franklin Menezes, Steve D’Souza Thottam and others showcased their acting skills in this play.

Simon Peter Furtado welcomed the gathering, Joylan Fernandes compered while Ivan Suvaris delivered the vote of thanks.

Norbert Menezes, vice president, Antony Dais, treasurer, former presidents Felix Barns, Richard Coelho, Henry Roche, Rolph Monteiro, Bony Sequeira, Wilfred Sequeira, Norman D’Souza, Jessy Almeida, Janet Coelho, Nancy Roche, Nirmala Rebello, Mabel D’Souza, Veera Gonsalves, Benny Barnes, Celine Coelho, Pramila Fernandes, Nancy Furtado among others were present.
