Indian Team has Lost Focus: Kapil

New Delhi, Jan 5 (IANS): Former India captain Kapil Dev feels that Mahendra Singh Dhoni and some other players have lost their focus after winning the 2011 World Cup and the players are putting their self-interest ahead of the team.

"After the World Cup win, I feel they (Dhoni and other players) have lost focus. I think all the players are self-involved," said Kapil, who led India to its first World Cup win in 1983.

Kapil's comments came in the wake of India's disastrous performance over the last 12 months.

The legendary all-rounder believes the team spirit is lacking in the Dhoni-led side.

"All players now have their personal coaches, doctors and trainers. The side lacks the team feeling. Sometimes I see them eager to stand at fine leg after finishing their job. Eventually if you have to win, you have to win as a team," said Kapil at an award function here late Friday.

Kapil didn't spare coach Duncan Fletcher either.

"There is a misconception about the word 'coach'. It is all about man management. For me the coach is the person who taught me the game. Only your team mates can tell you where you are going wrong."

Kapil said it was very tough for foreign coaches to succeed in the sub-continent because of the communication problem.

"For foreign coaches communication remains a big problem. I am a big fan of home-grown coaches. I think Sourav Ganguly didn't do the right thing by calling in a foreign coach and setting the trend."

Asked why India was not getting good fast bowlers like Pakistan, Kapil said: "Being a fast bowler is a tough job. In India every young cricketer wants to become a Sunil Gavaskar or a Sachin Tendulkar. We don't have enough fast bowling role models. But in Pakistan very child who picks up the ball wants to be Imran, Wasim or Waqar."

    There is no consentration, Hardwork,fighting spirit,patience & focus on our players.Its because of IPL.where they get anway chance & money for thier fluke matches.International test cricket or master in their skills are missing.We should appriciate the players like Kapil,javagal srinath,Kumble, Dravid...etc beutiful Hardworking players.Please throw out the nonsence todays so called heros.

    I do agree with Kapil, after the win of the WC2011, Dhoni( to some extent only) & other players have lost their focus. Dhoni should go back to his way of captaincy (his hair style as well) as upto the finish of the finals of WC2011.The other players who are spoiling the game are Sehwag, Gambir & Virat, basically the top order batsmen. It looks as though they want to pull down the captaincy of Dhoni from all the three formats.
    As far as Dhoni's game is concerned, his performance with bat & gloves are same as he was before & with succesive defeats - he is still the same Cool Captain.

    As rightly said by Kapil, the team spirit(MUST) cannot be seen due to the senior players, subsequently, it may affect the younger players.

    Just wait & watch tommorow's game, Sehwag, Virat, Raina & Gambir will wind up the game with support(if necessery) of Yuvraj & Rohit - Just to impress the ion committee & BCCI.

    Any ways, we want to see ONLY the UNITED TEAM INDIA

    Now India team has no guts like Dravid or Tendulkar. If they play a bit and give impression that they are heros, slowly they slup to zeros. When there is no runs on the board, they should use common sense to capitalise the score and only then go for big runs. What a shame to see these guys cannot get runs. At least they open the eyes and how Pakistan batsmen getting runs. No need to coach them. If they cannot get good runs, kick Gambhir, Sehwag, Kohli, Yuvraj out, bring other new guys. We already doing bad, at least we can say, this is because of our new guys. Actually new guys will play far better than these stupids.

    Each word here from Kapil Dev is indeed the naked fact which cannot be denied. Also the news of Tendulkar's retirement factor contributes to this disastrous performance. With Sachin, Indians were Heroes and without Sachin we are Zeroes in cricket. His availability in the squad gives immense confidence to the team and their moral was high. Sachin was yet to play his best innings when he called it a day in one day Cricket. Indian Team now have to come back with all possible hard work and sincere efforts lest we befall similar disasters in future. Good-luck to the Team.

    Indian players know if v dont perform no problem v can sit at home and earn from one IPL season. Orelse all the years money has to earned playing 1 yr in that hot sun.Stop IPL best option.
    Malinga is playing Big bash all after IPL n big bash started players opt club teams than country.
