London Olympics Drew 680,000 Overseas Visitors

London, Nov 16 (IANS): The latest official data has shown that London Olympics and Paralympic Games attracted 680,000 overseas visitors in the three months to September.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said Thursday that during the sports events in July-September, 680,000 overseas residents completed visits to Britain, reports Xinhua.

The overseas visits to Britain were either for the purpose of watching, participating in or working at the London 2012 Games.

Some of them attended a ticketed London 2012 event while visiting the country primarily for a different purpose.

"There were 90,000 Games related visits in September, which is in addition to the ONS' announcement in October, that 590,000 overseas residents completed visits to Britain in July and August in relation to London 2012 Games", said the statistics agency.

Meanwhile, the ONS also announced that overseas residents completed 2.6 million visits to Britain in September, an increase of one percent year on year.
