Swift's 'Red' is Biggest Album in 10 Years

Los Angeles, Oct 31 (IANS): Singer Taylor Swift's fourth studio album "Red" sold 1.2 million copies its first week. It is the first time an artist has accomplished such a feat in 10 years.

In 2002, Eminem sold 1.32 million copies of "The Eminem Show".

Swift is over the moon, reports eonline.com.

"They just told me 'Red' sold 1.2 million albums first week. How is this real life?! You are unreal. I love you so much. Thanks a million," Swift tweeted Wednesday.

This is not Swift's first feat. Not only is this her second straight album to top one million sales in its first week, but she's the only woman to have two separate albums perform this way since album sales tracking company SoundScan started keeping account of such figures in 1991.

With her latest milestone behind her, Swift is now second only to Britney Spears in terms of the biggest album debut by a female artist.

Spears' "Oops!...I Did It Again" moved 1.32 million units in one week in 2000.

Meanwhile, the current all-time debut-week record is held by boy band 'N Sync, who set the mark in 2000 when fans snatched up 2.4 million copies of "No Strings Attached".
