Bayern Munich Extends their Winning Streak in Bundesliga

Berlin, Oct 7 (IANS): A brace by Frenchman Franck Ribery was enough for Bayern Munich to defeat Hoffenheim while Hamburg's Heung Min Son scored the only goal of the match against newly promoted Fuerth in German Bundeliga football.

Among other clubs, Schalke also cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over struggling Wolfsburg, reports Xinhua.

German record champions Bayern Munich Saturday night equalled their own record-start with seven straight wins following a faultless performance against Hoffenheim, reports Xinhua.

Hoffenheim tried to neutralize Bayern's build up play from kick off. Nevertheless, it took 19 minutes until the Bavarians opened the scoring. Ribery utilised a through ball to beat Hoffenheim goalkeeper Koen Casteels from inside left of the box.

The Bavarians controlled the match although they were unable to extend the lead within the first half.

Two minutes into second half Franck Ribery added another goal to the scoreboards when he curled a pass by Toni Kroos into top left from the penalty area.

Bayern remained consistently dangerous at the second half but unable to add a third goal to the lead.

For now Bayern Munich secured their top position with a five-point gap to undefeated second placed Eintracht Frankfurt.

Schalke wrapped a comfortable 3-0 win over uninspired Wolfsburg, which extended their winless run to seven matches.

Schalke staged a powerful performance with a ball possession of 70% against passive "Wolves". Consequently Peruvian international Jefferson Farfan opened the scoring with a diving header following a precise cross by Christian Fuchs to put Schalke in front with 32 minutes played.

Seconds into second half Schalke went one better when Ibrahim Afellay scored his first goal for his new side. Afellay exploited a pass into path by Lewis Holtby to double the advantage.

The Royal Blues were not done with the scoring as Roman Neustaedter picked up a shot on target to slot into bottom right with all time and space at goal area.

It is the fourth win of the season for Schalke to ensure the best start into the season since twelve years. Wolfsburg remains winless at the six consecutive match to stage the weakest start since eleven years.

Hamburg extended their unbeaten run to six matches following a win at newly promoted side Greuther Fuerth. Hamburg's Heung Min Son was the man of the match, as he scored the winner after a solo run and goal at the 17th minute.

Elsewhere, Nuremberg lost 3-0 to Freiburg meanwhile Nikolce Noveski's winner was enough for Mainz to inflict newly promoted Dusseldorf the first loss of the season.

The following fixtures are set for Sunday: Monchengladbach host undefeated newly promoted Frankfurt, Stuttgart meet Leverkusen and Hannover encounter defending champions Dortmund.
