Mumbai: Vasai Konkani Welfare Association to have its Own Office

Mumbai, Sep 7: Vasai Konkani Welfare Association (VKWA) is one among the fast growing Konkani organizations. The founders of this organization are the young foresighted visionaries of Konkani residing in Vasai. The organization already has more than 1000 registered members. It basically works for the social, cultural, educational, political, religious welfare of Konkani people of Vasai.

VKWA was inaugurated by Bishop Thomas Dabre on October 28, 2008.  The organization was registered under Societies Act on May 2, 2009. It also got registered under Bombay Public Trust Act on February 17, 2010. In the past four years the association successfully organized several mega programmes gathering thousands of people.

Seeing the growing need of the people, the office bearers and the association members felt the need for buying its own office. This dream was also fulfilled by buying a 200 square feet commercial place at the heart of the city of Vasai opposite Bishops House.

The new office opening ceremony will be held on Saturday September 8 at 5 pm. Eric Ozario, the Gurkar Mandd Sobhann and the president of Jagotik Konknni Sanghotton will be the chief guest of the programme. Educationalist Albert W D'Souza of Aldel Education Trust will inaugurate the office. Fr Nazareth Gabru, the vicar general of Vasai diocese will bless the new office. Dominic S D'Mello, chairman of Bassein Catholic Bank and Robert Menezes, chairman of Micro Pneumatics will be the guest of honour.

Vasai Konkani Welfare Association is the only Konkani organization to buy an office of its own after Mandd Sobhann and Konkani Bhas Ani Sanskriti Pratistan in the recent decades.
