Olympics: Kemboi Wins 3,000m Steeplechase for Kenya


London, Aug 6 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Ezekiel Kemboi of Kenya won Olympic gold in the 3,000 metres steeplechase Sunday after defending champion Brimin Kiprop Kipruto tripped up in the penultimate back straight.

Kemboi, 30, a former world champion, stormed home in eight minutes, 18.56 seconds.

Frenchman Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad, the Beijing silver medalist, clocked 8:19.08, with another Kenyan, Abel Kiprop Mutai, taking bronze in 8:19.73.
