Eight Killed in Maharashtra Accident


Jalgaon (Maharashtra), May 16 (IANS): Eight pilgrims were killed and five others injured Wednesday when a truck rammed into an auto-rickshaw they were travelling in near the temple town of Muktainagar in Jalgaon district, police said here.

"The accident took place near Nimkhed, 65 km from the district head­quarters of Jalgaon. A truck rammed into a stationary shuttle auto-rickshaw in which the pilgrims were still seated," an official from Muktainagar Police Station told IANS.

The five injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals. Police said the truck driver is absconding.

Those killed have been identified as Dinkar Chaudhary, 55, Bhagwat Wagh, 35, Nikhil Patil, 7, Rupabai Lavange, 55, Chandrabhaga Patil, 70, Dhupabai Lavange, 55, Mankarnabai Lavange, 65 and Kaushalya Khite, 60.
