British champion Trump Suffers Shock Defeat in Snooker Championship


Sheffield, May 1 (IANS): British champion Judd Trump suffered a shock 12-13 defeat to Allister Ali Carter in the last 16 of the snooker world championship at the Crucible.

Resuming 9-7 up, last year's losing finalist Trump edged close to a victory with a frame left at 12-9, reported Xinhua.

However, world No. 17 Carter bravely fought back to force a decider and won a scrappy final frame to secure an unlikely victory.

Carter, 2008 finalist, will play either Jamie Jones or Andrew Higginson in the last eight. Matthew Stevens of Wales defeated Barry Hawkins, England, 13-11 will face Ryan Day in the last eight.

Welshman, Ryan defeated China's debutant and the lone Chinese player Cao Yupeng in the last-16 (best of 25 frames)13-7.

Three time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, England, defeated Mark Williams, Wales, 13-6 and will face Neil Robertson in the third quater final.

Jamie Jones of Wales defeated the Englishman Andrew Higginson 13-10.
