Bengaluru, Oct 9: Former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is serving a life sentence in a rape case, is being shifted from the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison here to the Hindalga Jail in Belagavi.

The transfer order was issued by prisons department DGP Alok Kumar on Friday, following the discovery of a mobile phone in the former MP's cell.

An official email regarding the transfer has been sent to the Hindalga jail authorities. The chief superintendent of the prison has been briefed on the matter, and officials have been instructed to make the necessary preparations, as he is expected to be shifted via an escort at the earliest.

It may be recalled that a team from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police recently conducted a surprise raid and inspection at the Parappana Agrahara jail. During the search, a mobile phone and a pen drive were found in the possession of Prajwal Revanna and another undertrial prisoner, an incident that had sparked a massive debate.

The CCB police had subsequently seized a mobile phone, a charger, a pen drive, and a notebook from the inmates.
