Sullia, Aug 7: A child had a narrow escape after falling into an open drain during a drinking water pipeline installation on Wednesday, August 7. The incident occurred on the roadside opposite Muliya Jewellers in Srirampete.

The roadside was being excavated using an earthmover, and the slabs covering the footpath drain had been removed for the ongoing work. The child, who was walking along with family members, was reportedly watching the construction work and suddenly fell into the uncovered drain.

Alert locals who witnessed the fall immediately rushed to the spot and pulled the child out. Fortunately, the child did not sustain any serious injuries in the mishap.

The incident occurred due to the drain being left open without any safety barricades at the construction site. Following the scare, local residents have urged the authorities and contractors to implement proper safety precautions during civic works, especially in areas frequented by the public and children.
