Beirut, Sep 30: Israeli artillery shelling targeted the town of Al-Mansouri in Lebanon’s Tyre district at dawn on Wednesday, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The shelling came amid continued Israeli military activity across southern Lebanon, with Israeli warplanes conducting extensive flights over the region on Wednesday morning, according to the NNA.

Al-Mansouri has been repeatedly targeted in recent weeks. On September 28, the Israeli military said it had completed a brigade-level operation in the town, which it considers part of a security zone in southern Lebanon. The military said its forces had destroyed more than 600 infrastructure sites and eight underground routes, while Israel has continued demolition and other military operations in the area.

Lebanese state media and AFP previously reported a major explosion in Al-Mansouri on September 28, with large clouds of smoke rising from the largely destroyed town. The NNA said the sound of the explosion was heard in Tyre and surrounding villages.

The town, located about nine kilometres south of Tyre and around 10 kilometres from the Israeli border, has come under repeated artillery fire, airstrikes and demolitions despite a ceasefire that took effect in June. Israeli forces have also maintained positions in what they describe as a security zone inside southern Lebanon.

The latest shelling was reported as Israeli military activity continued in several parts of southern Lebanon. Recent reports have documented artillery fire and strikes in areas of the Tyre, Nabatieh, Marjayoun and Bint Jbeil districts.

No casualties or damage from Wednesday morning’s reported shelling of Al-Mansouri were immediately reported by the NNA.
