Hyderabad, Sep 22: A 35-year-old police constable allegedly died by suicide at his residence here on Monday, police said.

The deceased was working as an Armed Reserve constable under the Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate. According to police, he was found hanging from a ceiling fan by one of his cousins, who alerted the police at around 1.30 am.

A police team reached the residence after receiving the information and shifted the constable to a hospital. Doctors examined him and declared that he was already dead.

A police official said the constable had made a video call through an instant messaging application to a woman shortly before his death.

Based on preliminary inquiries, police suspect that he took the extreme step after becoming distressed over issues concerning his proposed marriage. However, officials said the exact reasons and circumstances surrounding his death were yet to be established.

Police said the investigation was underway and the precise cause and circumstances of the death would be determined after its completion.

A case has been registered at the Malakpet Police Station and further investigation is in progress.
