New Delhi, Sep 6: A building collapsed in south Delhi's Satya Niketan area on Sunday, with several people feared trapped under the debris, officials said.

The incident occurred near Shiv Mandir at Satya Niketan in the Moti Bagh area. The Delhi Fire Brigade received information about the collapse at around 1.30 pm.

Officials said Station Officer (STO) Narender reached the spot around 1.50 pm and reported that a building had collapsed and some people were trapped under the debris. He sought the deployment of senior officers and additional manpower.

Following this, an SWT, a Big Fire Tender (BFT), an Officer-in-Charge, DO Mukesh Verma and STO Manoj were dispatched to the site.

Delhi Police said a rescue operation has been launched. The exact number of people trapped will be confirmed later.

### Similar building collapse reported in Karol Bagh

In a similar incident last month, one person died and three others were injured after a two-storey building collapsed while it was being demolished in the Karol Bagh area, officials said.

According to a preliminary enquiry, the building was being demolished by a private contractor engaged by its owners. Officials said no permission for the demolition had been obtained from the agency concerned.

The building suddenly collapsed during the demolition work, trapping labourers at the site.

The incident was reported to Karol Bagh Police Station at around 11.15 am from Pyare Lal Road in Regarpura.

Police personnel immediately reached the spot after receiving the information and launched rescue operations. Four labourers were injured in the incident.

One of the injured, Sheikh Shamshad, succumbed to his injuries. His body was shifted to the mortuary at Lady Hardinge Medical College Hospital.

Among the other injured workers, Md. Ayub sustained serious injuries, including a head injury and a fracture of his right hand. He was referred to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where his condition was reported to be critical.

Sheikh Saidul suffered limb injuries and was undergoing treatment at Jeevan Mala Hospital, while Rafik-Ul sustained minor injuries and later left for his residence.

Police and fire services jointly carried out rescue operations and ensured that the injured were shifted to hospitals for treatment.

The building owners and the contractor were detained for questioning.
