Mumbai, Aug 30: With the objective of identifying and encouraging sporting talent and urging the youth to actively engage in sports alongside their education, National Sports Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Poinsur Gymkhana in Kandivali West recently. On the occasion, talented young athletes who achieved remarkable feats in various sports were felicitated.
Speaking as the guest of honour, former member of parliament Gopal C Shetty said, "Education and sports must go hand in hand. Parents should support their children to excel in sports along with their studies. Sports play a crucial role in the personality and all-round development of children." Emphasising the vital role of parents in nurturing sports talent, he urged them to provide complete support and encouragement for their children's continuous participation in sporting activities. Congratulating the young achievers, he wished that they reach higher goals through relentless hard work and bring laurels to Maharashtra and the country.

North Mumbai district sports officer Sayali Jadhav highlighted the importance of sports in building character and facing life's challenges. She noted that continuous participation in sports instils three major qualities—commitment, concentration, and dedication—which are instrumental for success not only on the field but in every sphere of life.
A special attraction of the event was the release of the book 'Badalte Krida Jagat', authored by Sunil Walawalkar. Addressing the gathering, Walawalkar lauded the excellent sports infrastructure and facilities created through the efforts of Poinsur Gymkhana and Gopal Shetty to nurture emerging sports talents.
Senior journalist and editor Padmabhushan Deshpande, Poinsur Gymkhana president Mukesh Bhandari, vice president Karunakar S Shetty, along with other dignitaries, office-bearers, athletes, coaches, parents, and gymkhana members, were present.
The National Sports Day celebration once again reaffirmed Poinsur Gymkhana’s commitment to promoting sports, nurturing young talent, and creating better opportunities for the next generation of athletes.
