Mangaluru, Aug 15: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated by the Biruver Kudla organisation at Brahmashree Narayana Guru Circle in the city.

Former BJP state president and former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel hoisted the national flag during the programme.

Delivering a message on the occasion, he said, “We are experiencing freedom today as a result of peaceful non-violent struggles, revolutionary movements and the sacrifice of the lives of lacs of Indians. Today, India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is moving towards the Amrit Kaal. All of us, as citizens, should contribute in whatever way we can towards the overall development of the country and join hands in building a strong India.”

He praised the Biruver Kudla organisation, which has been working under the leadership of its founder president Uday Poojary Ballalbagh by extending assistance to the socially and economically weaker sections and promoting cultural programmes, among various other activities. He said such organisations serve as an example to others.

Retired soldier from Karkala, Praveen Shetty, said, “We are experiencing freedom as a symbol of sacrifice and martyrdom. It is the responsibility of all of us to remember those who made sacrifices and pay our respects to them.” He appreciated the activities of the Biruver Kudla organisation.
