Bantwal, Aug 14: A class 5 student from Bantwal has earned praise from chief minister D K Shivakumar for his presence of mind and courage in preventing a possible accident involving a school midday meal worker.
The student, Manvith, is studying in class 5 at Narikombu Government Higher Primary School in Bantwal taluk.
According to reports, a staff member engaged in preparing the midday meal was operating an electrically powered coconut grating machine when her fingers accidentally got caught in the machine. As she cried out in pain, Manvith immediately understood the seriousness of the situation and switched off the power supply.
His quick action helped prevent what could have been a serious injury to the worker.
Taking note of the incident reported in the media, chief minister D K Shivakumar congratulated Manvith through a post on X. Education minister Madhu Bangarappa also praised the young student for his courage and presence of mind.
In his message, Shivakumar described Manvith’s actions as 'heart-touching and commendable', praising him for protecting the kitchen staff member from further danger.
The chief minister said the boy’s alertness and timely decision had helped save the worker’s finger and described his humanity, courage and presence of mind as an example for others to follow.
Shivakumar wished Manvith a bright future and expressed hope that he would grow into a responsible citizen who continues to contribute to the welfare of society and bring pride to the state.
