Mumbai, Aug 14: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set December 31 as the deadline to complete Mumbai's first cable-stayed bridge over railway tracks near Mahalaxmi station, connecting Saat Rasta with Mahalaxmi Maidan.

Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar inspected the ongoing construction work on Keshavrao Khadye Marg on Thursday and directed officials to speed up the project.

The 803-metre-long bridge will be 17.2 metres wide, while the portion falling within railway limits will have a width of 23.01 metres. The project is being executed under the city's Development Plan works.

According to a report in The Times of India, a 78.5-metre-high pylon that will support the cable-stayed bridge has already been constructed.

Construction of the 165-metre-long eastern span, which falls within railway premises, will begin after the BMC receives the required block from the Railways.

Most of the pillars on the western side of the pylon have been completed. However, work on five pillars is still pending as traffic diversions will be required to facilitate construction.
The BMC is currently constructing a concrete service road that will be used to divert traffic once approval is received from the Traffic Police.

Utility-laying work is also underway along the stretch. The BMC's Bridges Department is coordinating with the Traffic Police to ensure smooth movement of vehicles while construction continues.

With the December 31 deadline approaching, civic officials have directed the agencies involved to accelerate the remaining work and ensure that the project progresses without further delays.
