Mangaluru, Aug 5: Three college students were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after college authorities found approximately 290 grams of ganja, packed in multiple small packets, in their possession during a campus inspection.

According to police, the college had recently intensified its monitoring system following a series of anti-drug awareness programmes. As part of the strengthened surveillance, authorities conducted regular checks on the campus, during which the three students were found in possession of the contraband. The college immediately informed the jurisdictional police station.

The students were subjected to medical examination, which confirmed that all three had consumed the substance.

Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR under the NDPS Act, including Sections 27(b) (consumption) and 8(c).

The student who allegedly brought the ganja to the college was produced before the jurisdictional magistrate. Taking into account his educational status and the quantity of the seized contraband, the court granted him bail on surety.

Police have launched efforts to trace and apprehend the peddler who allegedly supplied the ganja to the students.

Officials described the detection as an encouraging sign, noting that an increasing number of educational institutions are proactively conducting inspections and that their Anti-Drug Committees (ADCs) are functioning effectively. They expressed confidence that if all colleges adopt similar measures, drug-free and healthy campuses can be achieved within a short period.
