Sugar-laden truck falls into roadside drain at Udyavar; drunk driver detained

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (TP)

Udupi, Aug 5: A truck transporting sugar to Kerala veered off the road and plunged into a roadside drain near Udyavar on National Highway 66 on Tuesday evening, August 4, after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. Police have detained the driver, who was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

The driver had reportedly attempted to park the truck along the roadside near Udyavar. However, allegedly being heavily intoxicated, he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to plunge into the roadside drain.

The truck's wheels became lodged in the muddy ground, preventing it from moving further and thereby averting what could have been a major accident.

Soon after the incident, local residents gathered at the spot and confronted the driver, who was reportedly staggering due to intoxication.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

Personnel from Kaup police visited the scene and conducted an inspection. A preliminary investigation confirmed that the driver was allegedly operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He has been taken into custody, and further legal action is underway.

Daphney, very good judgment common sense indeed. You did a postmortem of the surroundings and gave brilliant point of view instead of generalizing or linking the incident to numerous nonrelated issues. Appreciated. 🙏 👍

It's parking etc. may be he is writing in the name of dappuni. MAy be she is the owner of trucks plus work as driver. Taking loads from udupi to sakleshpur. Good experience must appreciate..

The reporting appears misleading. The driver may have been drunk, but the photos clearly show the truck's tyres sank into the soft roadside ground under its weight. The driver had reportedly been attempting to park near Udyavar. From the images, it does not seem accurate to claim that the truck was driven into a drain.
