Four engineering students arrested for brutal assault near Manipal bar, remanded to judicial custody

Udupi, Aug 4: Manipal police have arrested four engineering students in connection with the alleged assault on three youths in Eshwarnagar, Herga village, under the Manipal police station limits.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 11.50 pm on August 2, when Yashraj, along with his younger brother Pavan Kumar and their friend Shreyas, was walking along the road.

The accused, identified as Akshay A (21), a resident of Kallapanakere, Shivamogga; Puneeth S (21), a resident of Halkola village, Shivamogga; Shamanth K R (21), a resident of Manjunath Badavane, Purle, Shivamogga; and Yashwanth B J (21), a resident of Vinobanagar, Shivamogga, allegedly arrived in a Swift Dzire car (KA-14-P-4245) and a Ford car (KA-14-MB-4109).

The accused allegedly intercepted Pavan Kumar, abused him in filthy language without provocation, assaulted him with their hands and kicked him. One of the accused allegedly struck Pavan Kumar on the face with a metal punch, causing a grievous injury to his nose.

The accused are also alleged to have assaulted Yashraj and Shreyas by kicking them, tearing their clothes and threatening to kill them before fleeing the spot.

Based on the complaint, Manipal police registered a case.

The four accused were arrested and produced before the jurisdictional court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

During the investigation, police found that all four accused are engineering students at a private educational institution. Further investigation is being carried out by Manipal police sub-inspector B N Thimmesh.

    I am sure these students were with influence of drugs ,alcohol?Otherwise it is not possible to do this.Anyway college must take action or punish them .They should be thrown out of college.Otherwise they will never learn to behave with others students etc?Parents to be informed and called to college.With lot of money drugs drinks making others to suffer.what is with other students who were injured ?Disciplin must be there in college.

    They are studying and their parents have given cars for mobility which is being used in full glory far away from their home/hometown. Parents also must be held accountable for this irresponsible behavior.

    These days, students are all behaving badly. When I was in Manipal, all the students lived in peace and enjoyed life very well. I feel nowadays all students are rude and do not behave like normal human beings. Something is wrong. I feel mostly they are overworked and stressed in life because of tension in studies and life
