Bengaluru, Jul 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a fresh spell of widespread rainfall across Karnataka, with Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi among the districts likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds until July 26. The public has been advised to take necessary precautions.

According to the forecast, several parts of the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by winds gusting at speeds of 30-40 kmph till July 26.

In the Malnad region, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu districts are likely to experience heavy rain accompanied by strong winds from Monday evening onwards.

Moderate rainfall has been forecast at isolated places in north Karnataka districts, including Bagalkote, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgir.

Several parts of south interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Tumakuru, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Ramanagara and Vijayanagara, are also expected to receive rain.

Intermittent spells of good rainfall have also been forecast for Kasargod and Dakshina Kannada districts, while rainfall over Uttara Kannada is expected to be comparatively less. Compared to Sunday's forecast, weather conditions have changed, resulting in increased rainfall over the southern coastal parts of the state.

Although rainfall intensity is expected to reduce slightly from July 21, the situation remains uncertain and will have to be monitored. Even if the intensity decreases, normal monsoon rainfall is likely to continue until July 29.

With rain accompanied by strong winds expected over the coming days, the IMD has advised the public to remain cautious. Fishermen and residents of coastal areas have been urged to exercise extra caution in view of the possibility of very heavy rainfall. People in other parts of the state have also been advised to take appropriate precautions while travelling outdoors.
