Solapur, Jul 20: A car belonging to BJP MLA Narayan Kuche met with a major accident on the Solapur-Dhule National Highway near Jamkhed on Sunday, police said. The legislator was not travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident and escaped unhurt.

According to reports, Kuche was travelling from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to Pandharpur to offer prayers at the Vitthal temple during the Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage. His convoy comprised multiple vehicles, but the MLA was travelling in a different car.

The overturned vehicle was occupied by the driver, a security guard and one of Kuche's associates when the accident occurred.

Preliminary information suggests the driver lost control of the car while negotiating a sharp bend, causing the vehicle to overturn. The car suffered extensive damage, but no fatalities or serious injuries were reported.

The accident caused a brief disruption on the busy highway before police reached the spot. Officers shifted the three occupants to a safe location and cleared the traffic congestion caused by the mishap.

Kuche has not issued any official statement regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, in a separate accident, five people were killed and one person sustained serious injuries after a goods vehicle collided with a car on the Samruddhi Expressway near Virul village in Wardha district late on Sunday night.

According to preliminary reports, the collision caused the car to catch fire. Four occupants of the car were killed in the blaze, while one person travelling in the goods vehicle also lost his life. Another injured person is undergoing treatment, police said.
