Udupi cracks down on habitual matka accused; externed to Chikkamagaluru

Udupi, Jul 18: The special executive magistrate and superintendent of police, Udupi district, have issued an externment order against Ramraj also known as Ramesh Aras (48), a habitual matka gambling accused, directing him to reside outside the district in the interest of maintaining public peace and order.

The accused has been identified as Ramesh Aras (48), currently residing in a rented house belonging to Gulabi Shetty near Nagabana, Mathadabettu, Shivalli village in Udupi taluk.

According to police, Ramraj has been involved in multiple cases related to matka gambling. A total of five cases have been registered against him at the Udupi Town Police Station. He has already been convicted in four cases, while the remaining case is currently pending trial before the competent court.

Considering his repeated involvement in illegal gambling activities and with a view to safeguarding public peace and maintaining law and order, the special executive magistrate and the superintendent of police, Udupi district, issued an externment order on July 18.

As per the order, Ramraj has been externed to the jurisdiction of the Chikkamagaluru Town Police Station in Chikkamagaluru district. Authorities stated that the action has been taken under the relevant legal provisions to prevent him from engaging in activities detrimental to public order within Udupi district.
