Mangaluru, Jul 17: In the wake of heavy downpours and an orange alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Dakshina Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for all educational institutions across the district on Saturday, July 18.

The Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner has issued the official order in this regard on Friday, July 17.

According to the order, all Anganwadi centres, government, aided, and private primary and high schools, as well as pre-university colleges (up to 12th standard) across the district, will remain closed on Saturday. Action will be taken under the Disaster Management Act 2005 against institutions that violate this order.

The district administration has issued a strict advisory urging parents to ensure that children do not go near low-lying areas, lakes, rivers, and the sea. Fishermen have been strictly warned against venturing into the sea.

Tourists and the general public have also been advised to stay away from riverbanks and beaches. Furthermore, all district and taluk-level officials have been instructed to remain at their respective headquarters, be available to respond to public complaints, and stay in constant contact with the district control room.

For any emergencies related to natural disasters, the public can contact the toll-free number 1077 or the control room at 0824-2442590.
