Udupi, Jul 17: Kudlu Falls, one of the most popular monsoon destinations in Hebri taluk of Udupi district, has been temporarily closed to visitors during the rainy season due to safety concerns.
Located on the Hebri–Someshwara Road, Kudlu Falls is renowned for its scenic waterfall, lush greenery, and tranquil atmosphere, making it a favourite destination for nature lovers and trekkers. In recent years, the spot has gained immense popularity through social media platforms, with stunning photos and videos attracting a growing number of visitors.

The recent visit of Kannada actress Radhika Pandit, wife of actor Yash, along with her family, further boosted the destination's popularity. During weekends and public holidays, hundreds of tourists flock to the falls to experience its natural beauty. In response to the increasing footfall, the Forest Department had introduced basic amenities, parking facilities, and safety measures for visitors.
However, with the onset of the monsoon, conditions at Kudlu Falls become hazardous. Continuous heavy rainfall makes the rocky terrain extremely slippery, while the water level and current rise rapidly, making it difficult to assess the depth and posing a serious risk to visitors.
To prevent accidents, the Forest Department has temporarily closed access to the falls by installing a gate on the main road leading to the site and prohibiting tourist entry during the monsoon season.
Officials said the decision was taken with the safety of visitors as the top priority and urged the public not to violate the restrictions. They appealed to tourists to visit Kudlu Falls only after the monsoon, when conditions are safe for sightseeing.
The Forest Department reiterated that while Kudlu Falls remains one of the district's most picturesque destinations, public safety must take precedence over tourism during periods of heavy rainfall.
