Panakkad Sayyid Naser Abdul Hayya Shihabuddin Thangal appointed new qazi of Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru, Jul 12: Panakkad Sayyid Naser Abdul Hayya Shihabuddin Thangal Ba-Alavi has been appointed as the new qazi of Dakshina Kannada district. The position fell vacant following the demise of Al-Haj Twaka Ahmed Musliyar.

Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, president of the management committee of the Zeenath Baksh Central Juma Masjid and Eidgah Masjid, Mangaluru, made the official announcement on Saturday.

Panakkad Sayyid Naser Abdul Hayya Shihabuddin Thangal, a senior Islamic scholar from Kerala, had recently consented to accept the responsibility. The declaration was formally made during a meeting of representatives and leaders from various masjids, held under the leadership of the Zeenath Baksh Central Juma Masjid management committee on Saturday.

Eidgah and Central Juma Masjid vice president K Ashraf, general secretary Muhammad Haneef Haji, treasurer S M Rasheed Haji, committee members Samad Haji, Addu Haji, Ashraf Halemane, Dakshina Kannada District Madrasa Management president Moidinabba Haji, leader Yenepoya Javed, and others were present.

Profile of the new qazi

Panakkad Sayyid Naser Abdul Hayya Shihabuddin Thangal Ba-Alavi was born on May 2, 1966, at Poovad near Panakkad in the Malappuram district of Kerala. He initiated his education at Othupalli and pursued advanced Islamic studies for 13 years through the Palli Dars system. A scholar of immense erudition, he belongs to the Yemeni Sayyid lineage, tracing his ancestry directly to the family of Prophet Muhammad.

After receiving his official certification (sanad), he served as a khateeb and mudarris in several masjids and Islamic educational institutions. Following the demise of his father, he took charge as the qazi of the Andaman Islands. In 2009, he was appointed as the grand qazi of Kozhikode. Currently, he serves as the qazi for over 300 mohallas spread across the Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, and Thrissur districts.

He also serves as the principal of the Imam Gazzali Academy and Rashidiya Arabic College in Wayanad, and is a patron of the Scine Institute of Social Leadership in Wayanad. Furthermore, he holds positions as the president of the Sunni Mahal Federation Malappuram district Maslahat committee, member of the Sunni Yuvajana Sangha Kerala state committee, and vice president of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama Tirurangadi taluk committee.
