Tehran, Jul 10: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held separate telephone conversations with his counterparts in Oman and Türkiye, as well as Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, to discuss the rapidly evolving regional security situation following the latest US military strikes on Iran, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
According to the ministry, Araghchi spoke with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan about recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional issues.
During the discussions, the leaders underlined the need to continue diplomatic engagement, maintain close coordination and work collectively to prevent further escalation of tensions in the region. They also exchanged views on issues of mutual concern linked to regional stability.
In a separate conversation with Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir, Araghchi strongly criticised the recent US military action, describing the strikes as clear violations of the UN Charter and the recently signed Iran-US peace Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), according to another statement issued by the ministry.
The Iranian Foreign Minister cautioned against what he described as further US military "adventurism" and reiterated that Iran would firmly defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security against any external aggression.
The latest diplomatic outreach comes after the United States announced that its forces had carried out precision strikes on multiple targets inside Iran on Wednesday and Thursday. Washington said the operation was launched in response to recent Iranian attacks on commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz and was intended to weaken Tehran's ability to threaten international maritime traffic along the strategically important route.
Iranian authorities said the overnight US strikes killed 14 people, injured 78 others and caused damage to infrastructure, including a bridge and a railway line.
In response, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) and the country's armed forces said they launched missile and drone attacks targeting US military bases and facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan, marking a sharp escalation in the ongoing confrontation.
