Panaji, Jul 10: Residents of Deulwada in Korgao have appealed to the Water Resources Department (WRD) and the Goa government to urgently repair the damaged safety railings on the Deulwada bridge, warning that the deteriorating structure poses a threat to commuters, especially schoolchildren and motorists.
Locals said portions of the bridge's safety railing have collapsed into the water, making the bridge unsafe for pedestrians and vehicles that use the route regularly.
They also expressed concern over the poor condition of the road leading to the crematorium, stating that the stretch becomes difficult to navigate, particularly during the monsoon.

Residents further alleged that garbage continues to be dumped illegally beneath the bridge despite repeated warnings, turning the area into an unauthorised dumping site.
Local resident Arvind Payaji said the bridge requires immediate repairs as heavy water flow during the rainy season attracts children to the area, increasing the risk of accidents.
He also criticised people for ignoring a panchayat notice warning of a Rs 5,000 fine for dumping garbage beneath the bridge.
Payaji urged authorities to strictly enforce the penalty against violators, stating that the site is not meant for waste disposal.
He added that waterlogging on the damaged road causes passing vehicles to splash dirty water on pedestrians and schoolchildren using the route.
The residents have urged the government to repair the bridge and approach road at the earliest and take effective measures to stop illegal garbage dumping in the area.
