Bantwal, Jul 8: Heavy rain accompanied by fierce winds lashing across the taluk has caused partial damage to five houses in various villages. Although uprooted trees and mudslides crashed onto the structures, a major tragedy was averted as no casualties were reported.

The damage was reported from Ammunje, Mudaikodikula, Kanyana, Pudu, and the Bolangadi area of Panemangalore, where trees and mud collapsed onto houses and outbuildings. Upon receiving the information, revenue department officials and concerned authorities visited the affected spots to inspect the damage and began assessing the financial losses.

With heavy rain forecast to continue in the taluk, authorities have advised residents living in low-lying areas, at the foothills of hills, and in other vulnerable zones to remain highly alert. The public has been requested to avoid visiting hazardous areas unnecessarily and to strictly follow the safety guidelines issued by the district administration and the weather department.
