Udupi, Jul 3: Trinity Central School organized an informative and thought-provoking seminar on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act for its teaching faculty.

The resource person for the session was Soujanya Shetty, counsellor and administrative officer at Dr A V Baliga Memorial Hospital, Doddanagudde.

The resource person delivered an insightful talk on the objectives and significance of the POCSO Act, which aims to safeguard children from sexual abuse, exploitation and harassment while ensuring their safety, dignity and well-being. She sensitized the teachers to recognise warning signs of abuse, understand their responsibility as educators and create a secure and supportive environment where children feel safe to speak up.

The session also focused on the POSH Act, highlighting the importance of maintaining a workplace free from sexual harassment. The resource person discussed the various forms of workplace harassment faced by women, the legal rights and protections available to employees, and the responsibility of every institution to foster a culture of respect, equality, and dignity.

The seminar was highly interactive, with teachers actively participating by asking questions and sharing their perspectives. The session served as an eye-opener, reinforcing the importance of awareness, empathy and vigilance in ensuring the safety and well-being of both children and employees.

The programme concluded with Sushma Suvarna proposing the vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the resource person for her valuable guidance and to everyone present for making the seminar a meaningful learning experience.
