Mumbai, Jul 1: The makers of ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ are set to take the popular crime drama universe to the big screen, and actor Ali Fazal, who plays the iconic character Guddu Bhaiya, has said the film should be viewed as a fresh cinematic experience rather than an extension of the web series.
Speaking in an interview, Ali said the film is a completely new story and not a spin-off or continuation of the existing seasons.
“It’s the first time something like this is happening. India mein aisa kabhi hua nahi hai. The show has become a Janta Ka show. We will discover it together,” he said.

The actor added that the film has been shot with a theatrical approach and will have the feel of a fresh beginning.
“It has nothing to do with Season 3, 4 or any subsequent seasons. It’s going to feel like Season 1, with a new cast. It has all the flavours of a film made for the big screen,” Ali said.
Rejecting comparisons with a spin-off, he said the movie is a completely different story and promised that audiences would enjoy the experience.
Meanwhile, Ali Fazal is also gearing up for another major project, ‘Batwara 1947’, a historical drama featuring actors including Shabana Azmi, Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta.
Talking about working with veteran actors, Ali said it was a memorable experience and praised Sunny Deol, calling him one of the sweetest people he has met.
‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ is presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, the film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. It is scheduled to release in theatres on September 4.
‘Batwara 1947’, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, is based on the acclaimed play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai’ by Professor Asghar Wajahat. The film explores the Partition era and is set to release on August 14.
