Narayanpur (Chhattisgarh), Jun 17: Security forces have recovered a sizeable cache of weapons and ammunition from the Maspur-Gudrapal forest region in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district during a special search operation, officials said on Wednesday.

The operation was carried out on June 16 by the 'E' Company of a Border Security Force (BSF) battalion as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and maintain law and order in the region.

During an intensive combing operation near the Maspur camp, personnel noticed a suspicious location inside the dense forest area. The team immediately secured the site and conducted a detailed search, leading to the recovery of concealed weapons and related materials.

The seized items included a country-made barrel grenade launcher (BGL), seven BGL guns, one 12-bore rifle, 37 rounds of 12-bore ammunition, 15 metres of wire and five pouches.

All the recovered materials were taken into custody by the security forces for further investigation.

Preliminary findings suggest that the weapons and ammunition had been hidden in the forest some time ago, police officials said.

Authorities stated that the successful operation reflects the continued vigilance of security agencies even after Narayanpur was officially declared free from Left Wing Extremism (LWE) on March 31, 2026.

Officials said regular search operations are still being conducted in remote and forested regions to locate and remove any hidden stockpiles of arms, explosives and other materials that could threaten the peace restored in the district.

Senior officers described the recovery as a major achievement that would further strengthen the security environment in the area.

The Narayanpur police and central security forces have reiterated their commitment to continuing joint operations in the coming days to ensure that any remaining anti-social or extremist elements are identified and neutralised.

Police officials said the operation sends a strong message to disruptive forces while reinforcing public confidence in the administration's efforts to maintain long-term peace and stability in the district.
