Bomb threat emails sent to BMC, CMO and BSE; Mumbai Police launch probe

Daijiworld Media Network – Mumbai

Mumbai, Jun 11: Security agencies launched an investigation after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) received a series of threatening emails on Wednesday warning of explosions at multiple high-profile locations in Mumbai, including the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the mayor’s office and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

According to officials, the emails were sent to several official email IDs of the civic body and allegedly contained references to the "Khalistan National Army" along with threatening and inflammatory content directed at various institutions and organisations.

Following receipt of the emails, senior civic officials, security agencies and Mumbai Police were alerted, and security measures were reviewed at the locations mentioned in the threats.

Officials said the emails, carrying similar content, claimed that an improvised explosive device (IED)-laden vehicle would be used to carry out a blast at the Mumbai mayor’s office at a specified time. The messages also allegedly threatened explosions at the BSE building, the CMO and BMC offices.

Police have registered a case against unidentified persons under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated efforts to trace the source of the emails.

Authorities have not reported any suspicious objects or security breaches so far. Investigators are examining the emails and related digital evidence to determine their origin and credibility.

Further investigation is underway.
