KCET results: Coastal region bags major share of ranks, Dakshina Kannada colleges shine again

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jun 7: Pre-university (PU) college students from Dakshina Kannada have once again proved the district's reputation as an educational hub by delivering an outstanding performance in the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) results. Out of 50 top ranks across five categories, more than 12 ranks have been bagged by colleges in the Dakshina Kannada district. However, Udupi district's absence from the top 10 ranks has been a source of disappointment.

Students from Expert Educational Institution in Mangaluru secured seven major ranks, while three from CFAL PU College, one from Sharada PU College, and one from Vidwat PU College in Guruvayanakere also achieved top ranks. Compared to the previous year, Dakshina Kannada's CET track record has seen a noticeable improvement.

CET as a preparatory exam

A significant number of students treat the CET as a preparatory test for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Even among those who secure top ranks in the engineering stream, a large majority ultimately aim to write NEET and pursue a career in medicine. While the district secured a second rank in the previous year's results, students have featured from the third rank onwards this time around.

Last year, a student from Expert PU College secured the second rank in agriculture, and this year, a student from the same institution has bagged the third rank. Meanwhile, three students from CFAL College have delivered an excellent performance in the engineering stream.

Anxiety over CBSE 12th revaluation delay

The delay in the announcement of CBSE class 12 revaluation results has sparked anxiety among thousands of students across the state. Students from various regions, including Dakshina Kannada, who have applied for re-evaluation and improvement exams, are currently in a state of confusion.

Many students who appeared for the CBSE exams applied for revaluation, alleging errors in the initial evaluation. However, with the revised marks cards yet to be published, students are haunted by doubts regarding how their final KCET rankings might change.

Students and educational institutions attribute the delay to technical glitches in the revaluation portal and the newly introduced on-screen marking (OSM) system in this year's CBSE evaluation process. Without clear information on when the revised marks will be announced, students are facing uncertainty over their CET status, college choices, and the possibility of securing seats in their preferred courses.

Commenting on the issue, executive director of the Karnataka Examination Authority Prasanna H stated, "Information regarding the first phase of results is not yet available from the CBSE New Delhi office. Despite our inquiries regarding the cause of the delay, there has been no response."

KCET exam overview:

  • 3.30 lac students applied for the exam across the state.

  • 3.09 lac students appeared for the test.

  • A total of 2,92,782 students have qualified for various courses.

  • 2,82,603 students are eligible for the engineering stream.

  • 2,09,220 students have qualified for agriculture and allied courses.
