Mangaluru, Jun 7: The southwest monsoon has intensified in the Dakshina Kannada district, bringing widespread and substantial rainfall across the region on Saturday. Mangaluru city experienced heavy downpours until the afternoon, leading to waterlogging on several roads.

A compound wall collapsed near Kadri Park in the city, causing minor damage to a parked car. In Bantwal taluk, a compound wall collapse in Kokkapuni, Bolanthur, caused damage to a cattle shed belonging to a person named Hamza. Beltangady taluk witnessed continuous good rainfall throughout the day, while Puttur, Sullia, Kadaba, and Subrahmanya experienced moderate showers.

Orange alert issued

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the coastal districts from June 7 to 9, predicting good rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. A yellow alert will remain in effect from June 10 to 12.

Mangaluru recorded a maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

Good rainfall in Udupi

Udupi district also received significant rainfall with intermittent breaks throughout Saturday. Widespread rain was reported in Karkala, Hebri, Byndoor, Kundapur, and Udupi taluks, bringing much-needed relief from the sweltering heat.

Following the IMD's forecast of heavy winds and rain in the coming days, the district administration has issued a strict advisory, prohibiting the public and tourists from venturing near the sea and riverbanks during the monsoon season.

Warning for fishermen

The IMD has issued a stern warning to fishermen, advising them against venturing into the Arabian Sea until June 9, as squally winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h are expected along the coast.
