Bantwal: Police foil MDMA trafficking bid; three held with drugs worth Rs 7.64 lac

Bantwal, June 5: In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Bantwal Town police arrested three persons and seized MDMA valued at approximately Rs 7.64 lac during a vehicle check near the Melkaar flyover on the evening of June 4.

The operation was led by Bantwal Town police sub-inspector Sandeep Kumar Shetty, who, along with his team, intercepted a car for inspection. The vehicle was occupied by a driver and two passengers.

During the search, police discovered equipment allegedly used for the consumption of psychotropic substances. When questioned, the occupants identified themselves as A Zubair (39), a resident of Pudu in Bantwal; Mohammed Savad (36), a resident of Sajip Munnur in Bantwal; and B M Rashid alias Marimuthu, a resident of B Mooda in Bantwal.

According to police, the trio admitted that they were transporting MDMA with the intention of selling the narcotic substance at a higher price. A detailed search of both the accused and the vehicle led to the recovery of 76 grams and 40 milligrams of MDMA, with an estimated market value of Rs 7,64,000.

Police also recovered equipment allegedly used for consuming narcotic substances from the vehicle.

The seized property includes the MDMA contraband, three mobile phone handsets found in the possession of the accused, and the car bearing registration number KA-19-MR-1997, which was allegedly used to transport the drugs.

All the seized items have been taken into police custody, and further legal proceedings are under way.
