Mangaluru, Jun 5: Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Mescom) has incurred losses amounting to Rs 11.73 crore due to extensive damage caused by pre-monsoon rain and strong winds across its jurisdiction between April 1 and June 1.
In a release, Mescom said that electricity infrastructure, including poles, transformers and power lines, suffered significant damage in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga districts.

The highest financial loss was reported in Chikkamagaluru district, where assets worth Rs 321.40 lac were damaged, followed by Dakshina Kannada with losses of Rs 318.66 lac. Shivamogga recorded damage worth Rs 312 lac, while Udupi district reported losses amounting to Rs 221.62 lac.
A total of 8,147 electricity poles were damaged during the period. Shivamogga district accounted for the highest number of damaged poles at 2,797, followed by Dakshina Kannada with 2,438 poles, Udupi with 1,031 poles and Chikkamagaluru with 881 poles. Mescom stated that all damaged poles have since been replaced.
The utility also reported damage to power transformers, with 12 transformers affected in Dakshina Kannada district and 17 in Shivamogga district.
In addition, 228.05 km of power lines were damaged due to adverse weather conditions. Dakshina Kannada recorded the highest extent of line damage at 121.9 km, followed by Shivamogga with 56.83 km, Chikkamagaluru with 37.62 km and Udupi with 11.7 km.
Mescom said repair works on the damaged power lines and transformers have been completed and power supply has been restored in the affected areas.
