Beltangady, Jun 4: A 30-year-old trekker who got stranded on the steep steps of the famous Gadaikallu cliff after twisting his leg was safely rescued on Thursday, June 4.

The youth, identified as Mohammed Shareef, a resident of Janata Colony in Tannirupantha village, had visited the popular tourist spot along with three others, including two women. While ascending the steep rock face, Shareef twisted his leg and was unable to climb down due to severe pain. Stranded midway, his companions contacted the Beltangady fire station for assistance.

Personnel from the fire department, the forest department, and members of the Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Shaurya disaster management team rushed to the spot and launched a joint rescue operation.

The rescue proved to be highly challenging as continuous rainfall had made the steep rocky steps extremely slippery, making it difficult to carry the victim on a stretcher. Following a strenuous three-hour operation, the rescue teams successfully carried the youth down 1,500 steps over a distance of 1.5 km.

Shareef was administered first aid at the base and subsequently shifted to the Beltangady government hospital for further treatment. He is currently out of danger.

Going for trekking during the onset of monsoon is a stupid craze.. he is lucky enough that he only twisted his legs... in worst case scenario, if he would have slipped and fell down, he would not be alive rather!!!!
