Udupi, Jun 3: In a dramatic rescue operation at Kemmannu on Tuesday morning, an elderly couple was pulled to safety after the wife accidentally fell into a well and her husband jumped in to save her.

The rescued couple have been identified as Gopalakrishna (65) and Shyamala (60), residents of Kemmannu. The incident occurred near the Government Pre-University College in the area.
According to available information, Shyamala accidentally fell into a well situated near their house while she was in its vicinity. On noticing his wife plunge into the well, Gopalakrishna immediately leapt in, reportedly in an attempt to rescue her.

Alerted to the incident, local rescuer Eshwar Malpe and personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services Department rushed to the spot without delay. Working swiftly, the rescue team used ropes to bring both Gopalakrishna and Shyamala safely out of the well.

The couple, who were said to have been taken seriously ill following the ordeal, were rushed to Manipal Hospital for medical treatment and observation.

Meanwhile, police personnel from Malpe police station visited the scene and carried out an inspection.

The prompt response of the rescuers and fire service personnel proved crucial in averting a tragedy, with the elderly couple being rescued and shifted to hospital in time for treatment.

It is deeply painful. The elderly couple must be in very great attachment and affection. The husband should not have jumped, instead he should immediately leave down the rope. Usually utility wells are having strong ropes. Your paper says accidentally. I humbly suggest you to print actual reason as a first & transparent information to the public. The couple must be God-fearing & devout, So God's arrangement was very handy and favourable to them. When shock strikes, common sense get blinded and blackout happens. This is why husband jumped instead of raising the voice for Alarming neighbours. I wish quick recovery to the elderly couple.
