Ghaziabad launches ‘Operation Clean Sweep’, seals illegal Madrasas amid heightened security drive

Ghaziabad, Jun 2: The district administration in Ghaziabad has launched a large-scale enforcement drive titled “Operation Clean Sweep” in the Khoda area, targeting illegal establishments, including unregistered madrasas, as part of a wider push to strengthen law and order in Uttar Pradesh.

District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar visited Khoda to review the operation on the ground, assess enforcement progress, and brief officials on the ongoing verification exercise being carried out jointly by administrative and police teams.

Officials said the campaign was initiated following directives from the state leadership to intensify action against criminal elements across Uttar Pradesh. The operation focuses on identifying illegal activities, verifying occupants and properties, and ensuring strict compliance with regulatory norms.

During the drive, authorities identified three madrasas operating without registration from the Madrasa Board. One of them, Madrasa Rahmania Arabia Qasim-ul-Uloom, was sealed by officials after verification confirmed it was functioning illegally.

The District Magistrate said the operation involves detailed checks of property records, landlords, tenants, and residents in order to detect unlawful activities and prevent misuse of premises. He added that the campaign will continue until full verification is completed across the area.

As part of the enforcement strategy, the administration is also carrying out door-to-door verification of individuals with suspected criminal backgrounds, summoning identified offenders for questioning, and initiating action against those involved in activities linked to revenue loss or other violations.

A large-scale flag march was also conducted in Khoda to demonstrate police presence and reinforce the administration’s zero-tolerance approach towards crime and illegal activity.

The intensified action follows the recent murder of 17-year-old Surya Pratap Chauhan, a Class 11 student from Navneet Vihar Colony. Police said the teenager was stabbed during an altercation on May 28 and later died while undergoing treatment in Noida.

The main accused, identified as Asad, was later killed in a police encounter during a joint operation conducted by Khoda and Indirapuram police teams. Officials said he had a reward of ?50,000 on his arrest and was shot after allegedly opening fire on police personnel.

The operation is being supervised by Police Commissioner J. Ravindra Gaur, with heavy deployment of police and administrative staff across Khoda to maintain strict surveillance and prevent any further law-and-order incidents.

Authorities said Operation Clean Sweep will continue in phases, with the aim of strengthening security, improving verification systems, and ensuring that illegal activities are effectively curbed in sensitive areas of the district.
