Udupi: Rowdy-sheeter detained under Goonda Act, shifted to Kalaburagi prison

Udupi, June 1: A rowdy-sheeter under the jurisdiction of the Manipal Police Station in Udupi district has been detained under the Goonda Act.

The accused, identified as Ganesh (32), son of Venkataramana and a resident of Netajinagar 4th Cross, 80 Badagabettu village in Udupi taluk, was ordered to be detained under the provisions of the Goonda Act by the District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district on June 1, 2026. The order was issued based on a report submitted by the Superintendent of Police of Udupi district.

According to police records, Ganesh is involved in nine criminal cases registered at the Manipal Police Station. These include cases related to attempted murder, assault, unlawful assembly, offences against women and theft.

Of the nine cases, three have ended in acquittals, four are currently under trial, and two remain under investigation.

Following the detention order, Ganesh has been lodged in the Central Prison, Kalaburagi, where he will remain under preventive detention as directed by the authorities.
