Panaji, May 30: Stakeholders in Goa's tourism sector have urged the state government to ensure that the next Assembly elections are held after the peak tourist season, warning that polls during December could adversely affect the state's tourism-dependent economy.
In a letter addressed to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa expressed concern over reports that the Assembly elections may be scheduled during December, one of the busiest months for tourism in the coastal state.
The association requested that the elections be conducted ideally towards the end of February next year, after the peak tourism season concludes.

TTAG president Jack Sukhija said December represents the high point of Goa's tourism calendar and any major political activity during this period could disrupt the industry.
The association noted that tourism remains the economic lifeline of Goa and argued that holding elections during the peak holiday season could affect visitor experiences, business operations and the state's reputation as a leading global tourist destination.
In its representation, TTAG advocated the postponement or rescheduling of election dates to minimise disruptions and safeguard the interests of the tourism sector.
Goa is expected to go to Assembly polls in early 2026, although the election schedule has not yet been officially announced.
The tourism industry has expressed hope that authorities will take into account the economic significance of the peak tourist season while finalising the election timetable.
