Mumbai, May 29: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast partly cloudy skies and heatwave conditions in Mumbai on Friday, with daytime temperatures expected to remain high across the city.

According to the weather department, the maximum temperature is likely to touch 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may settle around 28 degrees Celsius.

Despite the prevailing hot and humid conditions, Mumbai’s air quality remained in the ‘good’ category on Friday.

Data released by the Central Pollution Control Board’s Sameer App showed the city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 50, indicating minimal impact on public health.

Air quality readings varied across different parts of Mumbai, though most monitoring stations continued to record levels ranging from good to satisfactory.

Bandra Kurla Complex registered an AQI of 54, Borivali 34, Byculla 46, Andheri 65, Chembur 42, Colaba 109 and Deonar 72.

Among these locations, Colaba recorded the highest AQI at 109, placing it in the moderate category, while Borivali reported the cleanest air with an AQI of 34.

Elsewhere in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), air quality remained satisfactory. Thane recorded an AQI of 63, while Navi Mumbai registered an AQI of 62.

Meanwhile, parts of Delhi-NCR experienced pleasant weather conditions following rainfall and thunderstorms that brought relief from the recent intense heatwave.

The IMD has forecast further rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad on Friday as pre-monsoon activity continues over northern India.

The weather department also issued its second forecast for the Southwest monsoon, stating that India is expected to receive rainfall amounting to around 90 per cent of the long period average (LPA) this year.

According to IMD, northeastern states are likely to receive normal rainfall, while several other parts of the country may witness below-normal monsoon rainfall this season.

Earlier, in its first monsoon forecast released on April 13, the IMD had projected rainfall at 92 per cent of the long period average.
